The Top Herbal Acne Treatment

Article by Joan Yankowitz

If you suffer from acne, you know that it can be a horribly embarrassing and painful problem. There are days when you just don’t even want to leave your house.

Fortunately, you don’t need to suffer with the pain of acne and you don’t need to resort to medicinal, topical creams.

As an alternative, there are organic ways in which to tackle skin dermatological problems, such as the following herbal acne treatment options.

The Causes of Acne

Essentially, acne is caused by a clogging of the pores, which can be brought about by a build up of oils and bacteria. However, what causes clogged pores?

Well, given the fact that acne is particularly prevalent among adolescents, it’s maybe a logical conclusion that hormones can be an underlying reason, which is why women who take the contraceptive pill or who are pregnant can suffer sudden outbreaks.

Nonetheless, different factors, such as stress, poor diet and general ill health can all contribute to acne problems.

Using Herbal Acne Treatment

Today, herbal acne treatments are more accepted than ever before. Partly, this can be thanks to an increase in knowledge of holistic approaches to medicine.

But, it is largely because prescription drugs for skin problems can cause dryness and, in extreme cases, scarring. Therefore, natural herbal methods, which tend to nourish the skin are becoming increasingly popular.

The Best Herbal Acne Treatments

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is known for having great antiseptic qualities and is thus often used throughout an outbreak of acne instead of as a preventative measure. If you suddenly find yourself with a large and inflamed pimple, tea tree oil will quickly decrease the inflammation and redness.

Licorice Root Extract

This oil has been used for thousands of years in the treatment of an assortment of ailments. Like tea tree oil, licorice root extract has anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it helpful in reducing the appearance of acne.

Green Tea

Whether, you choose to drink it or use green tea extract directly onto the face, it is known to be very good for the skin. It is wonderful at ridding the body of poisons, that leaves you with a splendidly soft and smooth complexion.

Aloe Vera

Another herbal remedy that’s used to treat many ailments, aloe vera is an anti-inflammatory treatment. The utilization of aloe vera will reduce the appearance of acne and the possibility of scarring.

Olive Leaves

It’s thought that olive leaves have been utilized for their healing properties since the dawn of time. Helpful in all dermatological conditions, olive leaves improve the general health of the skin and help to decrease pimples, whiteheads, blackheads and even cysts.

Yellow Dock

Yellow dock is one of the most popular herbal acne treatments, as it prevents infection and, like many of the aforementioned herbal remedies, is anti-inflammatory. Acne sufferers typically use yellow dock as an alternative to prescribed medicines.

The above herbal acne remedies are all accepted as beneficial for skin health. But, if you are employing a topical cream or taking a prescribed drugs, it’s advisable to talk to your doctor or dermatologist before embarking onany herbal acne treatment.

Skin Care Techniques – Herbal way to skin care

Article by Barry M. Jones

It is since ancient times that skin care is a topic of consideration, when people possibly took care of their skin by herbal means. Though, skin care has now changed very much. Now, chemical/synthetic skin care products are being replaced by the routine herbal skin care. Previously used herbal recipes are outdated now (most of the people are unaware). This modification from herbal to artificial means of skin care can be due to two reasons – the commercialization of skin care and the laziness (or simply the lack of time). Now even commercialization has been done to the herbal products of skin care. These products are commercialized using preservatives so as to enhance their life span, thereby decreasing the effectiveness than the new ones made at your house. But, now people are learning fast and many people have become aware to use herbal and natural routine skin care. As people don’t want to formulate at home so the products related to herbal skin care are in the boon in the commercial market.

So what are the mechanisms for herbal skin care and herbs?

One of the products which are found as the best to herbal skin care involves Aloe Vera. It is obtained from Aloe plant. The Aloe Vera that is freshly extracted is natural hydrant that benefits in soothing skin. Also, it helps in treating burns and healing cuts.

There are some herbs which have cleansing properties. Rosemary, lime flowers, chamomile and dandelion are some of the cleansers. When mixed with other herbs such as tea their properties to care the skin by herbal means get enhanced.

Another significant part for herbal skin care includes antiseptics. Fennel, marigold, lavender and thyme are some of the antiseptics that contain good antiseptic properties. Rose water and lavender water are also good toners.

Tea is also an important source for herbal skin care. The skin disorders due to UV radiations can be treated by the extracts of tea.

Another part for herbal skin care involves the oil that is being extracted from herbal means. Primrose oil, tea tree oil and also lavender oil and borage oil are some examples for herbal skin care. Many fruit oils such as extracts melon, banana and apple are used as hydrating mix in shower gels.

Aromatherapies and homeopathic treatments also come in the family of herbal remedies to care the skin.

It is good to routine herbal skin care as it not only nourishes the skin but also provides treatment to many skin diseases like psoriasis and eczema. The advantage of using products related to herbal skin care over synthetic products is that they don’t have any harmful effects. In addition, these products can be made easily at home, therefore, are prepared more attractive. Hence, one should go for herbal skin care but not by completely neglecting the synthetic products. Many people also argue with the skin specialist when they prescribe synthetic products. But some skin diseases can only be treated by medication i.e.by using the synthetic products that are recommended by the dermatologist.

Question by Yuki: Herbal remedies for skin? Skin texture?
I’m interested in herbs, and I’ve read up on them a good deal. Recently, I’ve made an herbal toner using rosemary, elderflowers, nasturtium, lavender, and myrtle. It works, I think, but I’m not sure on one thing – I know that the point is to get soft skin, but is it supposed to be velvety-smooth or slippery-smooth? Also, are there any other herbs that might work well with oily skin? (My problem being that I inherited large pores from my parents, and while I do know that I can’t exactly “shrink” them, I’d like to try to make them less obvious without using too much makeup)

Question by : Herbal treatments for hormonal acne and other problems?
I am currently 26, and have been struggling with my acne issue for the last 3 years. I had a miscarriage sadly, and ever since that time I have been suffering with acne on and off. I have also noticed I will get a few hairs on my chin, but only around that annoying time of the month. I have tried everything from facial washes to home remedies and the dermatologist. I am a strict vegetarian and eat very healthy and work out regularly… I feel almost defeated … I try so hard to do everything right, why is my skin reflecting myself as unhealthy? If anyone knows of any treatments ( herbal or drug) that have worked for them with similar issues, please share.

Herbal and Natural Acne Remedies

Article by Scot Robinson

Getting an effective acne remedy is thus recommended as soon as the condition appears, the sooner you start the better. However, it’s important to remember that even if an acne remedy is “natural” it can still be harsh on the skin, and may even have side effects. A popular natural acne remedy is the use of hot and cold wet towel compresses.

When conventional acne remedies are sought out, they are typically prescribed by a doctor, though some remedies can also be found in the form of over-the-counter drugs. Usually tretinonin is the active ingredient. This vitamin A derivative affects the development of oil glands helping pimples dry up and keeping new ones from forming at all.

Home remedies are best remedies to cure acne. To deal with this condition, a number of acne patients generally will have to combine acne home remedies with prescription acne medication.

Draining and Surgical Excision. This acne remedy is believed to be one of the best available, though of course it is a costly alternative. This severe acne remedy came about when dermatologist realized that large cysts weren’t responding to more general acne treatments. This form of severe acne treatment is said to be able to eliminate acne cysts altogether. Another term for this treatment is “acne surgery”.

A natural acne remedy is going to be made from all-natural ingredients. These usually include vitamins, herbs, minerals, or some combination of those three. The point is that they are all natural. When choosing a natural acne remedy, it is a good idea to check the list of ingredients. It is wise to look up these ingredients to ensure that everything is natural and there will be no surprises when the natural acne remedy arrives.

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Facial scrubs and astringents won’t do because they have a tendency to irritate the skin more. Use over-the-counter acne remedies like acne lotion to dry the excess oil and encourage peeling. Products with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide works best. Keep your face clean.

Some herbal acne remedies are also now available in some local health outlets. To mention, the black currant seed oil or evening primrose oil is one of the most well-known herbal acne remedies in the market today. It is usually taken three 500-milligram capsules per day for three months or until the acne clears up.

There are four types of severe acne, they are acne conglobata, acne fulminans, gram negative folliculitis, and nodulocystic acne. And each has the potential to create emotional turmoil and unparralleled social anxiety in the lives of it’s sufferers. Severe acne can not only be physical disfiguring, but years of treatment are almost a given. That is until Accutane came along.

Natural herbs are a wonderful way of detoxifying the blood system and helps improve skin related problems. A good remedy for acne is an herbal face wash made from chickweed tea which also helps treat sores, burns and skin rashes. Ginger and lobelia also help cure acne in a large way. Natural herbs are convenient and cost effective, too.

Get Rid Of Acne Naturally With 7 Acne Herbal Remedies

Article by Charles Zoe

Herbal medicine: Some herbs are known to have anti-inflammatory properties and, for that reason, they may be helpful in the treatment of acne (as well as other skin conditions). Herbs and other natural substances can form the foundation for the effective treatment of cystic acne and pimples. Some herbs can soothe inflammation, produce natural antibacterial properties, while others may reduce scarring.

1. Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine originated in India. Ayurveda focuses primarily on diet and lifestyle. Each person, as we all know, is unique and Ayurveda treatments recognize this by tailoring recommendations to the individual.

2. Another herbal acne treatment is Tea tree oil or melaleuca oil. This essential oil is applied topically to the affected area. Tea tree oil has beneficial medical properties including antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Both of these properties will help you get rid of acne naturally.

3. Basil leaves have long been known as an excellent herbal acne remedy, as well as healing other skin problem. Basil reduces inflammation and will reduce the redness and general appearance of acne. Boil one tablespoon of basil in a cup of water. Let it steep for at least 10 minutes to give the leaves plenty of time to soften. After it has steeped, set it aside until it is cool to the touch.

4. Dandelion root is rich in nutrients that can assist with acne scar removal. It works by detoxifying the skin from toxins and excessive hormones. Dandelion root extracts can be found in tablet or pill form, which should be taken 3 times per day for at least 6 months.

5. Jojoba plant oil is often used as an herbal acne treatment to reduce the formation of acne scars. Jojoba plant oil also lowers the production of sebum, thus lowering acne breakouts. Plus, jojoba oil is both an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory which will speed up the healing of acne.

6. One good homemade mask is created from orange zest. Orange zest is simply the gratings from an orange peel. Like most citrus, orange peel has an antiseptic quality that can draw out infection. When turned into a mask, it can draw out infection as well as the other dirt within the acne. This is one of the best natural acne treatment.

7. Aloe vera contains antibacterial properties that calm the skin, fight bacteria and reduce inflammation caused by scarring. These gentle healing properties can also boost the immune system by reducing infections to regenerate skin and rebuild scarred areas. The best method is to cut an aloe vera stalk and apply it directly to the scar. This can also be done with an aloe vera gel.

Herbal Supplement Safety – Myths about Taking Herbal Remedies

Article by Stephanie Jacobs

Herbal supplements are safe because they are natural, right? That is what most people think, but is it really a true statement? It is always a good idea to know what you are taking into your body. Before you take any herbal remedies, learn about some myths related to them.

Myth One: Herbal supplements are natural and natural means safe; so, it follows that herbal supplements are safe.

Fact: Natural does not necessarily mean safe. There are many poisons that occur in nature. One is deadly nightshade, which can cause twitching, paralysis, and even death.

Fact: Not all herbal supplements are purely natural. Some have added drugs and other chemical substances. Read the label carefully to make sure there are no ingredients besides the natural herbs you are buying.

Myth Two: Herbal supplements are good for you if you have medical problems.

Fact: Talk to your doctor if you have any chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, psychiatric problems or a history of stroke. Let your doctor make the decision as to whether the herbs are safe for you.

Myth Three: Herbal products do not have any side effects.Fact: There are many side effects known to be common with herbal remedies. Common side effects are upset stomachs, headaches, skin rashes, and high blood pressure.

Myth Four: These remedies are tested for safety and effectiveness.Fact: There is no government mandate that herbal supplements must be tested before they are sold. There is not only little testing for safety, there is also little evidence that many of the herbs do what they are said to do.

Myth Five: Herbal health remedies can be taken with prescription and over the counter drugs without adverse effects.

Fact: There are often interactions with prescription or over the counter drugs. These interactions may cause the medications to be stronger or weaker in the system than without the herbals. For example, St. John’s wort decreases the ability of the body to absorb certain medications that you might need very much. Talk to your doctor if you are taking medications to make sure they will still work as they should.

Myth Six: The amount you take of herbal supplements is not important.

Fact: If you do take herbal remedies, do not take more than the recommended amounts. They are usually powerful substances, even if they are not classified as drugs. The interactions and side effects they cause are more severe if you take too much.
